MoSAR was established in 1983 as a 501-c3 service organization. We have been actively providing service to law enforcement, fire departments, and other emergency response agencies since that date.
We are a volunteer, non-profit dog/handler unit operating under the laws of the United States and the state of Missouri. Ours is a service group whose primary objective is to find lost or injured persons and to assist in saving lives.
MoSAR serves all city, county, state, and federal agencies and will work in cooperation with other SAR organizations. All services are provided free of charge. K9 teams and support personnel are maintained to high training standards. In addition to regular unit training and internal testing, each K9 team must have a current certification in their specific discipline that meets or exceeds SWGDOG recommended guidelines (link?) to be deployable for searches. Once added to the active roster, each handler is tested at regular intervals in the latest search techniques as well as CPR/First Aid, map and compass navigation, and even wilderness survival. Additionally, each handler and their dog must pass regular fitness qualifications.
MoSAR responds to approximately 30-50 call-outs per year. The primary population served is Missouri, Kansas, and the Midwest. MoSAR will respond to areas outside of these locations if requested by public safety agencies. We are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
